À rebours
“À rebours” uses two artifacts to create a dialogue between the profound and the superficial: Joris-Karl Huysmans’ book “A contrapelo” and its protagonist, Jean des Esseintes, along with maps designed by the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute, where color becomes a key element in generating knowledge about the Earth’s interior.
These eight paintings represent a journey of discovery, where each piece becomes an artistic and poetic refuge, with color and texture aligning with my interests in depicting the internal accident inscribed in a reimagined geological layer. In this way, each painting is a layer that reflects a hidden complexity beneath the surface, evoking the rich diversity of geological formations and human events.
Finally, it can be said that in “À rebours,” there is a celebration of the intersection between scientific and artistic forms of representation, as well as a pursuit of the aesthetic pleasure of the hidden beauty imagined in the Earth’s layers.
In progress.
